An awarding evening
The 76th Annual Assembly of the Zionist Council of Victoria (“ZCV”) will be held later this month in the presence of Israel’s Ambassador to Australia Shmuel ben Shmuel.

This special evening will be an opportunity to remember, celebrate and reflect on a year of remarkable highs and painful lows for the local and world Zionist movement.
The keynote speaker is Mr Yaron Shavit, immediate past chairman of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism and a member of the World Zionist Organization’s executive board. In Mr Shavit’ s talk, he will address the topic, Israel and the Diaspora – a Two Way Street from the Perspective of an Israeli Lay Leader, and share his personal story as a sabra with more than 30 years of IDF reserve service. He will reflect on his understanding of the need for a truly reciprocal partnership between Israelis and the Jewish communities of the Diaspora.
Philip Chester
In a highlight of the evening, The Jerusalem Prize will be awarded to communal stalwart and immediate past president of the ZFA, Philip Chester, whose dedication to the Zionist cause is exemplary. The Jerusalem Prize will be presented to Phillip in recognition of his unwavering support of Israel and his contribution to the Australian Zionist movement over many decades.
This year’s Community Volunteer Award will be presented to Lamm Jewish Library of Australia volunteer Adele Hulse. Adele is the long-time coordinator of the Library’s Write Your Own Story program.
President of the Zionist Council, Sam Tatarka said. “We are delighted to welcome Mr Yaron Shavit to this year’s Annual Assembly and we are very pleased to have Israel’s Ambassador to Australia join us for this occasion.”
“This year has been full of exciting and demanding challenges,” reflects Mr Tatarka. “It is no surprise to me that as Israel faces significant challenges, our community joins as one to demonstrate support and advocate on Israel’s behalf.”
Mr Tatarka is standing for re-election as president of the ZCV for what will be his third and final term in office.
More than 300 people are expected to attend the Annual Assembly including representatives of the ZCV’s 52 affiliate organisations, federal and state parliamentarians and key supporters of the roof body.
The event will take place on Tuesday 18 November at Beth Weizmann Community Centre.
