Award for Our Big Kitchen
Sydney’s Our Big Kitchen has won a $2500 award for its work with homeless people of all denominations.

The award is part of Sydney Eastern Suburbs newspaper The Wentworth Courier’s Project Local Competition.
The grant was made to Our Big Kitchen for its work in training homeless people to become baristas and in finding work for them when they have completed the course.
OBK Director Rabbi Dovid Slavin said: “The Talmud teaches us to support poor people whether they are Jewish or not. Australia has been very kind to the Jewish people and it is wonderful to be able to reciprocate. This particular project shows the difference between giving someone in need a cup of coffee and teaching them how to make it…through which they can earn a livelihood.”
Rebecca Jacob manages Our Big Kitchen. She told J-Wire: “I am very excited about the Kitchen winning this award. It’s a privilege to be able to help people to help themselves.”
