The Australian Jewish community has proffered condolences to the United States following fatal bombings in Boston.

The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has sent a message of condolence to Jeffrei Bleich, the United States Ambassador to Australia following the bombings that claimed three lives and caused enormous injuries to others during the Boston marathon.

We were shocked and appalled to learn of the double-bombing that occurred at the Boston Marathon yesterday. In addition to those who tragically died or were injured, thousands more have no doubt been traumatised.  The description of this crime as “terrorism” is entirely appropriate.  We cannot begin to imagine what kind of sick or evil minds would have conceived of wreaking murder and mayhem at a popular sporting event.

Both personally and on behalf of our organisation, please accept, and convey to the American government, our sincere condolences.  The Jewish community joins with our fellow Australians in expressing our complete support for, and solidarity with, the American people in the wake of this dreadful atrocity.
