Three pro-Palestinian protesters broke security lines at Melbourne’s Park Hyatt Hotel where the Australia-Israel Peace Forum was being held.

Police used capsicum as the vanguard of over 200 protesters attempted to gain access to the hotel where Deputy Prime Minister Julia Guillard and Israeli vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom were due to make an appearance.

A police spokesman told media that the protesters had broken a prior agreement in which they pledged to stage a peaceful protest.

The police spokesman told J-Wire: “Three people were apprehended but no charges laid. The protest has broken up and all is currently quiet. We are investigating the possibilities of trespass and enquiries are continuing.”

He told J-Wire that a police radio had gone missing in the scuffle and it had not been retrieved.

Police used dogs and mounted units to disperse the crowd.
