Olympic 400m runner Steven Solomon has participated in his first Olympic opening ceremony…

Steven Solomon at the Opening Ceremony

A beaming Solomon has been on touch with his father Michael who will leave Sydney on Wednesday to watch his son compete in the 400m and 4 x 400m events at the 2012 Olympics in London. The proud father told J-Wire: ” As parents we are are lost for words at the most incredible opportunity and adventure that lies ahead over the next two weeks for this young man. He has worked so hard at achieving his goal and we know he will give it all to run a PB. Time will tell if this will get him through into the next round.

As parents what can we say………..  surreal, emotional, quite incredible.  We  can not believe that Stevie Solomon born 7 and a half weeks premature 19 years ago is an Olympian today marching in the opening ceremony together with the most famous athletes and sportsmen in the world in front of the Queen, Presidents, Prime ministers and 4 billion people.

They wont get back to Tonbridge until 3am in the morning. His coach Fira said to me   “My beautiful Steve…….  He clever boy ……….He vill rest today and train tomorrow”

He will head to the Olympic Village with the Athletic team on Monday morning to prepare for his big day next Saturday

Aussie Aussie Aussie      Oi   Oi   Oi”

Meanwhile New Zealand sailing medal hope Jo Aleh did not make it to the Opening Ceremony…too far from the sailing base unit in Weymouth. Her mother Daniella told J-Wire:  “She watched it on TV.

Her messages center more on the type of muffin she is currently baking. Baking being an excellent time  filler and much appreciated by the other sailors – but it doesnt make for much news!”
