AusAid has suspended aid to Union of Agricultural Work  Committee an alleged agency of the proscribed terror organisation the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Last week, the Israeli legal group Shurat HaDin alleged that AUSAID, the Australian Agency for Ineternational Development and World Vision “are providing financial aid and other forms of martial support to the UAWC.”

AusAID responded to J-Wire’s request for a statement by saying: “The Australian Government does not fund terrorist organisations or affiliates and funding would be terminated if any such links were confirmed.

Under AusAID’s Australian Middle East NGO Cooperation Agreement (AMENCA), Australian NGOs must ensure that local partners are in no way linked, directly or indirectly, to organisations and individuals associated with terrorism.

As soon as AusAID became aware of the allegations last week, Director General Peter Baxter spoke with the CEO of World Vision Australia, Tim Costello, to underline the seriousness of these matters and the requirement for an urgent response to the allegations.

World Vision immediately suspended its partnership with the UAWC, pending the outcome of its investigation of the allegations.

The Israeli Government has also confirmed that the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) is not a listed terrorist organisation and World Vision has informed AusAID that the UAWC is registered as an approved Palestinian NGO with the Israeli Ministry of Interior and the Palestinian Authority.

AusAID will review World Vision’s investigation once it is completed.”

Federal Labor MP Michael Danby said: “Claims by the Israeli Law Centre that Australian Aid was leeching out to a UN classified terrorists had to be taken extremely seriously” Michael Danby the Member for Melbourne Ports said today.

The Israeli Law Centre (a private organisation, not a part of the Israeli Government) has alleged that Australian Aid money given via the charity World Vision has been passed on to an organisation affiliated or aligned to PFLP (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – a group classified by the UN as a Terrorist group).

Senator Glenn Sterle Chairman of the Australia Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group commended Mr Tim Costello, Chairman of the Australian Charity World Vision for Costello’s decision to stand down funding to the Palestinian organisation.

Danby and Sterle jointly said: “We expect the Foreign Minister to act decisively by ending all funding to the PFLP – Palestinian Front if it was proved that the anti-peace, anti two State solution PFLP was the beneficiary of any money from Australia”.

  1. Not says:

OK – so the Australian government is indirectly funding Palestinian terrorism – doesn’t surprise me at all. It does surprise me how much of a stranglehold Jooliar and her Islamist friendly leftards have on the media. This story is not being covered by the MSM, – just the denials. It is VERY INTERESTING to look into how google and google news are returning results on keywords from this story. I am satisfied the darkest Orwellian nightmare has now come to fruition in Oz, and we have a ministry of truth re-writing / deleting bits of history. Keep up the good work, no other sites seem to still be reporting on the original allegations.

1.“… Australian Aid was leeching out to a UN classified terrorists…”

If the terrorist-friendly UN classifies a group as “terrorist” they must be really really really bad.

    2. “… Australian Aid money given via the charity World Vision has been passed on to an organisation affiliated or aligned to PFLP (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine…”

So I am now doubly glad that I did stop sponsoring World Vision – although my reasons for it at the time were the stridently party-political advocacy of Tim Costello.

    3. “…“We expect the Foreign Minister to act decisively by ending all funding to the PFLP – Palestinian Front …”

Just as well then that this Foreign Minister has resigned, hopefully to be replaced by one that is not soooo eager to please the UN.
