Nominations are now open for B’nai B’rith’s inaugural Young Adult Achievers Awards. Over $4000 in prize money is offered to young adults who are actively committed to making a difference to their communities.

The judging panel will be searching for those under 18 and 18 – 28 years who have shown proactivity, leadership and commitment in one of the following four categories:

  • • contribution to the Jewish community
  • • contribution to Australian society
  • • social justice (The Sol Encel Social Justice Award)
  • • advocacy for Israel.

Ernie Friedlander, President of B’nai B’rith’s Alfred Dreyfus Unit has been working closely with a group of passionate university students to develop the themes and framework for the Awards. “Every day I feel privileged to experience the energy and enthusiasm of the many Jewish young adults who recognise that we have an obligation to work towards the concept of Tikkun Olam. I hope that by honouring those individuals who have made a real commitment to helping others we will be encouraging and inspiring others to follow suit.”

The JNF, one of the Award sponsors,  has committed to planting a tree to recognise the commitment of each nominee. So in effect, just by nominating someone, you will be helping to make the world a better place.

Nomination forms can be downloaded at www.bnaibrith.org.au or by calling the B’nai B’rith offices on 02 9361 6035. Nominations close on 19 August 2011, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to recognise those committted to making the world a better place.
