Armenian community leader Vache Kahramanian will address the Jewish community at next week’s NSW Jewish Board of Deputies plenum.

Vache Kahramanian

Born in Willoughby, Mr Kahramanian was appointed political affairs director of the Armenian National Committee at the age of 20, holding the position for six years until being appointed executive director in 2012.

In this role he has lobbied for Australian recognition of the Armenian genocide – recognition which was granted by the NSW Parliament in 2013 – and has led delegations of politicians to Armenia.

He was outspoken in supporting the Executive Council of Australian Jewry’s push to stop the proposed changes to Section 18C of the federal anti-discrimination legislation, which would have seen it watered down, and has supported the current call by the Board of Deputies for the State Government to overhaul Section 20D of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act following bigoted remarks by Hizb ut-Tahrir spiritual leader Ismail al Wahwah.

Mr Kahramanian has close ties to the Jewish community, is a regular guest at Yom Hashoah and Yom Ha’atzmaut, and last year spoke about the Armenian genocide at Limmud Oz. He also led a strong delegation of Armenian guests to the Board of Deputies’ outreach Shabbat dinner at North Shore Temple Emanuel.

“This is an opportunity for community members to engage with a leader of the Armenian community and an ally with whom we share many important interests and concerns,” Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff said. “We encourage community members to turn out, both to hear what Mr Kahramanian has to say and to thank him for his support.”

The plenum will take place in the Sydney Jewish Museum on Tuesday February 23 at 7.30pm.

I much doubt if you have the courage to post “facts” as below:Comment: Mr. Kahramanian’s activity is no news in so far that two of the ministers in the NSW state are Armenians and their (not the Federal Government’s) Parliament has taken a “genocide” decision, paradoxical to the recent ECHR (European Court of Human Rights) in 2015 and CCF (Constitutional Council of France) in 2016, rulings which gave a clear message to EU, as well as to the international community, that parliaments and other political institutions are not the appropriate bodies to declare an historical event as “genocide”.
The astonishing news are that most Jewish communities are “blank” on WW-1 history, viz:

1-They are totally ignorant of the 22.000 men “Armenian Legion in the Nazi Army” under General Dro Kanajan and their services in rounding up Jews in Holland and sending them to death camps. See internet for many articles and read: http://armenians-1915.blogspot.com/2006/10/1139-nazi-armenians-helped-hitler.html

2- Jews are also ignorant of the outstanding services of Turkish diplomats saving Jews connected with Turkey in some way and saving some 10.000 Jews from France, sending them by special chartered trains to Palestine via Istanbul This ignorance is inexcusable: http://www.sefarad.org/lm/043/6.html
