The fate of minority communities across the Middle East remains desperately uncertain…a topic to be addressed at the NSWJBD monthly plenum by expert Samuel Tadros.

Samuel Taros,  a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute for Religious Freedom, has spent years studying the rise of Islamist forces across the region and the implications on minority populations. He will be guest speaker at the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies plenum on ‘Antisemitism in the Middle East – Origins and expressions of the oldest prejudice’.

“This is a rare opportunity to hear from an authority whose areas of expertise cover the changing manifestations of antisemitism, as well as the plight of minority communities in the Middle East, a topic which does not attract the attention it warrants,” Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff said. “We encourage members of the community to avail themselves of this opportunity and attend the meeting.”

Before joining the Hudson Institute, Tadros was a senior partner at the Egyptian Union of Liberal Youth, which promotes classic liberalism in Egypt. He acquired a degree in Political Science from the American University in Cairo and a Master’s in Democracy and Governance from Georgetown University. His books have been published worldwide and his articles feature regularly in publications such as the Wall Street Journal Current Trends in Islamist Ideology, National Review, World Affairs and the Weekly Standard.

His research has focused largely on the plight of Coptic Christians, citing the tendency of Middle Eastern regimes to neither respect nor preserve the sanctity of minority faiths. With persecution and targeted attacks on the rise, Christian communities that have had long histories in the region are becoming fearful for their future. He believes the fate of minority Christians was inevitable after the late 1940s expulsion of Egypt’s Jews.

Samuel Tadros will address the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies plenum on ‘Antisemitism in the Middle East – Origins and expressions of the oldest prejudice’.

Tuesday, 8 September, 7:30pm, Darlinghurst. Inquiries: 9360 1600.
