Mr Jones, who was also an inaugural Ambassador in 2012, is the only member of the Jewish community selected to serve in this position, which includes women and men representing all Australian states and territories.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard describes the Ambassadors as “Champions for the values we share in our multicultural Australia”, who are recognised for “significant contributions” to each community represented as well as to “wider Australian society”.

She added “Ambassadors are the voice of Australia’s future, one which acknowledges that our multicultural composition is central to our national identity”.

Amongst the tasks of the Ambassadors in 2013 will be promoting access and equity, supporting anti-racism initiatives and bringing concerns of community members to the attention of the Federal Government and the Australian Multicultural Council.
