The World Jewish Congress has written to online book retailer Amazon urging them to remove books promoting antisemitism, Holocaust denial and White Supremacy.

WJC executive vice-president Robert Singer wrote the following letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos:

WJC“It has come to our attention that Amazon.com is selling books that deny the Holocaust and promote antisemitism and white supremacy. According to reports and our own investigation, these materials are even available to customers in countries such as France, Germany and Austria, where Holocaust denial is a crime and such texts are banned.

amazonAmazon’s own policy on offensive materials states: “What we deem offensive is probably about what you would expect. This includes items such as crime-scene photos or human organs and body parts. Amazon.com reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of items sold on our site. Also, be aware of cultural differences and sensitivities. Some items may be acceptable in one country, but unacceptable in another. Please keep in mind our global community of customers.”

No one should profit from the sale of such vile and offensive hate literature. Many Holocaust survivors are deeply offended by the fact that the world’s largest online retailer is making money from selling such material. We are shocked and disgusted that Amazon has not yet removed these items, which came to light in news reports on October 14.

Please remove these items forthwith.”

In 2008, Amazon complied with a request to remove merchandise that glorified Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime.

  1. Tenez, I often wondered how people ‘justify’ anti-Semitism these days. Now I know.

There are no “settlements”-there ARE Jewish towns and cities. What’s wrong with that? It IS the Jewish homeland, after all.

  2. Eleonora says:

Dear Tenez, I thought I was a dumb blonde, I now feel like Einsteins little sister or did I miss something in my history study? Or is it you who failed to study and get the facts straight. G-d help us all.

  3. Tenez says:

Agree with the need to keep overtly racist & anti-semitic material off the shelves.

It’s also appropriate to remove the causes of anti-semitic sentiment throughout the world.

A good place to start is to place a moratorium on settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. While these settlements continue the world will view Israel with contempt and disgust. No amount of bleating by those who use ‘anti-semitism’ as a defence for illegal and debasing settlement activity will convince anyone of Israel’s goodwill or fair dealing with citizens of occupied lands.
