As the alarming events in Israel continue to unfold, take the opportunity to get a deeper understanding of the issues by enroling in the Melton Scholars Course Beyond Borders: The History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict to enhance your understanding of the complex history of the State of Israel.

MeltonIt is being taught by Dr Michael Abrahams-Sprod, who is the main lecturer in this area at the University of Sydney. He brings in-depth knowledge to the topic and is highly regarded by his students.

Beyond Bordersis one of several Melton courses starting over the next few weeks. The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning, with its world-class curriculum developed and tested by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is an international education network of schools in 50 locations. Melton informs and inspires adult learners form all knowledge-levels and backgrounds and sets the standard for high-quality, text-based, interactive Jewish study.

Sydneysiders are encouraged to take the opportunity to embark on the Melton journey as it is the ideal forum for people to continue their Jewish learning in an inclusive and non-threatening environment. Melton prides itself with its slogan ‘No Homework, No Marks, Know Judaism’. The format of the course has become more user-friendly with Melton now being offered in 10-15 week blocks in various locations around Sydney. The core subjects as well as three Scholars Courses will be offered. The new courses are Kabbalah and Mysticism, The Holocaust as Reflected in Memoirs and Diaries and Beyond Borders

Melton’s links to the Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney gives the program access to outstanding lecturers with ties to the Department either as lecturers or past students. Dr Avril Alba is the Roth Lecturer in Holocaust Studies and Jewish Civilisation and Dr Michael Abrahams-Sprod is an honorary associate of the department. Rabbi Dr Orna Triguboff, Rabbi Zalman Kastel and Aviva Winton studied in the department. Rebbetzin Esty Gutnick is an experienced Melton teacher as is Rabbi Gary Robuck who we welcome back to the faculty.

Melton is offered through the Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies in conjunction with the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Sydney.
