NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian took time out from  a frantic week ahead of three by-elections to send a Pesach greeting to the Jewish community.

Premier’s 2017 Pesach Message

I send my warmest wishes to the Jewish community on celebrating Pesach this week.

Widely observed amongst family and friends, this significant Jewish holiday marks the heroic biblical story about the exodus from Egypt by the Jewish people and the achievement of freedom against oppression.

That spirit of emerging even stronger despite facing significant challenges is one of the defining features of the Jewish people. We see that around the world, and Jewish Australians are no exception. The outstanding contribution of Australian Jewry in the arts, business, law, medicine, and government provides sound leadership and quality in values for the benefit of all citizens of New South Wales. These same values are reflected in the spirit and observance of Pesach, passed on from generation to generation.

It is an indication of our strength as a multicultural society that we respect the right of everyone to celebrate their faith through festivals such as Pesach.

I join in your prayers that Pesach this year will spread peace and prosperity throughout New South Wales, the Australian Jewish Community and across the world.
