VOICES – a spectacular cross-cultural musical journey which merges the melodies, harmonies and rhythms of Israel, Africa and the world – will play in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney starting 14 November.

Every musical journey begins with a dream. And when this dream converges into reality, the results can be breathtaking. Such is the story of VOICES, the latest in the series of ‘Celebration’ spectaculars (including Celebration 60 which wowed Australian audiences!). Again conceived and created by legendary South African cantor Oshy Tugendhaft, VOICES fuses Hebrew, English and African music into a blend that emerges as a different genre of music altogether.

Oshy is no stranger to cross-cultural interpretation and integration; he is the creator of the world-renowned show ‘Celebration’ that has toured internationally eight times to standing ovations in South Africa, Canada, the USA, the Royal Festival Hall in London and in Australia.

For this latest Australian tour, Maestro Bryan Schimmel – recent recipient of the ABSA Award for South Africa’s most outstanding musician, with his inimitable showbiz panache – has arranged several new musical numbers in excitingly diverse styles; Bryan will be on stage live, playing and directing!

The instrumental ensemble of VOICES consists of eight South African musicians, under the gifted baton of Joel Sacher, 14 male vocalist backing singers showcase a talent and diversity that has dazzled and charmed audiences around the world.  Plus an all-star band and backing vocalists!

Also featured is Caulfield Shule chazzan Dov Farkas (Melbourne only) and – in all shows – a star cameo from one of South Africa’s trendiest contemporary boy bands, BLACK YOGHURT. Taking the South African music scene by storm, this exciting trio features Sean McGrath, Donovan Yaards and Itumeleng Tshabane. Their  distinctive singing style extends to light classics, cover songs and urban pop music by artists such as Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeren and Sam Smith.

VOICES is a not-for-profit project presenting a world-class touring Jewish cultural event. 100% of proceeds will be used to support communal charities in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
