Shai Chaim is a Melbourne child facing whose only chance of life depends on a blood stem cell of bone marrow transfusion. The Gift of Life is maximising its efforts to find a match following a plea from the child’s uncle…Shai’s Uncle Gerald writes:

“My four and a half year old gorgeous nephew has been diagnosed with Leukaemia (JMML) & has been in intensive care in Melbourne for the past week with a 24×7 hour monitoring nurse by his side.

We’ve been told that receiving a matched blood stem cell or bone marrow transfusion is his only chance of survival.  In 95% of cases the transplant can be as simple as a blood donation similar to what is given at a blood bank.

No one in our family has been found to be matching & finding a match is extremely difficult. The only chance of a match is from someone from his own ethnic background, ie someone from the Jewish community even then it’s only 1 in 10 000 !

This is now urgent so if you or anyone you know is healthy, between the ages of 18 and 45 &  would consider helping to save his life by taking a blood test in our quest to find a matching donor.

The test consists of having a small blood test & can be arranged by calling Gift of Life Australia,

Shula in Sydney on 0414 780 444

or Yehuda in Melbourne 0425 724 314

I know this is a really big ask but please try and help us save his life. If you know of anyone else who may also be able to help please let them know.

Thanks ,
Uncle Gerald
