Rabbi Herman, who served the congregation from 1959 until 1962, was the third of only six Chief Ministers to have served the congregation from its inception in 1871 until the present.
The plaque for Rabbi Herman, who succeeded Victoria’s longest-serving Rabbi (51 years of service), Jacob Danglow, was dedicated by Jerusalem-based Rabbi Dr Raymond Apple who knew Rabbi Herman personally.
“The dedication was most fitting”, said St Kilda Shule’s Rabbi Yaakov Glasman. “It was a well deserved tribute for a rabbi who stepped into the role at a most challenging period for the congregation and stayed true to his convictions of sustaining Orthodox Judaism”.

The service was MC’d by Shule President Anton Block and other speakers included Rabbi Glasman and David Havin.”
