Today is World Cancer Pancreatic Day and Israel’s The Technion is making inroads in research to combat this dreadful disease.

Professor Ester Segal

Israel has positioned itself on the world stage, as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship with the Technion being a key contributor. Technion boasts four Nobel prize laureates, discoveries and commercialisation of cutting-edge research and products and life-saving applications.

Professor Ester Segal at The Technion is working with other researchers to develop a lab-on-a-chip technology which will help to detect the early stages of pancreatic cancer.

This well help to significantly reduce the effects of the disease. The earlier it is detected, the earlier it can be treated.

World Cancer Pancreatic Day is an initiative of the The World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition to unite communities around the world and raise global awareness about pancreatic cancer.

The World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition has brought together more than 70 organisations from 30 countries and six continents to raise awareness and inspire action.

Through their combined worldwide effort, they are bringing greater attention and are demanding better awareness, funding, and research for the disease.

Wearing a Purple Ribbon on this day brings awareness to Pancreatic Cancer.

Other notable examples of The Technion’s research and development include ReWalk and UPnRIDE mobility devices enabling paraplegics and quadriplegics to walk, Pillcam (miniature camera delivered as an endoscopy capsule) and the miniature surgical robots of Mazor.

Technion Australia is in the process of raising a modest $18,000 to seed fund this important research.
