Representing Fairfax, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, news.com.au, nine.com.au, Sky, The Weekend Australian and Radio 2GB, they undertook an intensive immersion into the geopolitics of the country and the region last week.

As well as being briefed by top-level analysts, the journalists toured the borders of Syria, Lebanon and Gaza, visited the Temple Mount, Yad Vashem and Gush Etzion, experienced Shabbat at the Western Wall and met with exponents of Jewish-Arab peace-building programs.

They also visited Ramallah, where they were briefed by one of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ principal advisers, Majdi Khaldi, and a Palestinian refugee camp, as well as the Mayor of Efrat, Oded Revivi.

The journalists – who were accompanied by Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff – will report back at a community meeting at the Sydney Jewish Museum next Tuesday October 30 at 7.30pm. All welcome.

Board of Deputies president Lesli Berger commented:  “The Journalists Mission to Israel is a vital aspect of our work in that it exposes senior journalists to the complexities of the country and the region and gives them the opportunity to meet with experts across a range of specialties. The meeting is a rare opportunity for members of the community to hear first-hand from senior representatives of Australian media – television, newspapers, radio, online – and is always one of the most well-attended events of the year. We urge community members to attend.”

The Board of Deputies Journalists Mission is supported by the JCA Haberman Kulawicz Wolanski Fund.
