The Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) finds a call on breakfast television to ban all Muslim immigration in to Australia reprehensible.

The Australasian Union of Jewish Students have commented that Sonia Kruger’s statements represent a flagrant violation of our shared duty to develop an inclusive and united multicultural community, and an immature and dangerous approach to the contemporary challenge of radical terrorism.

Sonia Kruger Today

Sonia Kruger   –   Today Show

Kroger story made her comments on the Nine “Today” program.

AUJS  issued a statement saying: “We remember Australia’s response to the 1938 Evian conference in France, when the world was directly confronted with the question of the Jewish people’s future in Europe in light of the pervasive antisemitism which later erupted in to the systematic genocide of six million: “we do not have a racial problem, and we do not want to import one.”

We recognise that the various attacks in Western countries over the past several years have engendered a legitimate fear for our physical safety in Australia.

We note that alongside the development of this fear has been the surge in movements which operate under the proxies of anti-Halal, anti-Immigration, or anti-Mosque, but often are led by leaders that are fundamentally anti-Muslim, anti-Jewish, and anti-Asian.

We do not challenge the right of individuals to publicly advertise these views. However, it is our shared responsibility to proudly and more loudly prosecute the case for the respectful multicultural society which has embraced our Jewish community.

We know too well the consequences of social isolation and treating a community like a pariah. We know too well the paralytic effect of hateful speech on a community; the resentment and the dejection that often follows comments like Kruger’s.

It is our shared historical responsibility as Jews to defend the rights of a member of any faith, cultural, ethnic or community group, to participate and contribute to the rich tapestry of Australian society.

We urge the Jewish and broader Australian community to approach the discussion of violent terrorism and its links to Islamists intelligently and with the maturity that the debate demands.

If the answer to terrorism is a White Australia, then the question is wrong.”

  1. Trump’s campaign added in the release that such a ban should remain in effect “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” Trump confirmed that his policy would not apply to current Muslims in the U.S. during a Fox News interview on Monday evening.

  2. Hans Gruber says:

Wait, what’s wrong with White Australia?

  3. michael Burd says:

I would guess if this were the 1930’s Herzog his comrades and other naive holier than thou Jewish friends would be arguing ‘not all German’s are Nazis” 99% of Germans are law abiding citizens. No doubt if I were around AUJS and Herzog would be calling me a ‘Naziphobe’.
It is you naive Jews that have learnt nothing from the past and and g- d for bid if it happened again it is types like you that would say don’t make a fuss, don’t stereo type go quietly .

Over the last few weeks each Jewish organization have tried to out do the other who can defend the Muslim community the loudest and staunchest with out having any expectations for any reciprocity as Rabbi Genende stated from ‘our Brothers and sisters”.
I suggest try having some self respect for your own background before you start taking on the protector of other minority groups including those that force us to require such security .

    • Erica Edelman says:

Luckily for you Michael Burd, this isn’t the 1930’s. Had it been, Mr Herzog, his comrades and other close Jewish friends would have been doing anything and everything (quietly) to survive. You, on the other hand, would have been rounded-up during the first few weeks for calling ALL GERMANS “NAZI KILLERS!

As I’ve said before, in 2016, its not about “all or nothing”. Nobody is protecting terrorist Muslims. Nobody is protecting anybody who needs to be classified as a criminal, despot or murderer. Justice has always been done in this country.

Despite what you think, there are many ordinary, every-day Islamics who get about quietly, doing their business and blending into society in a civilized and contributing manner. They are NOT ALL sitting around planning to strap bombs to themselves in the name of Allah!

I suggest you take a “calm-down” pill and start having some self-respect of your own. If you feel like you need to be doing something to ward off your inner paranoia, may I suggest you join a vigilante group who patrol the streets looking for Muslims who REALLY pose a threat! (The police may really thank you because they are so busy with cases of rape, domestic violence, burglaries and drunk drivers who really cause mayhem).

In the meantime your ranting above does our Jewish community no good.

By association, your ranting makes us all look like racists. And as for your attack on AUJS – NOW THAT IS JUST PURELY AND SIMPLY DISGUSTING.

  4. Eric Belcher says:

I support Sonia Kruger. Islam is NOT a race so her comments are NOT racist. The people who are so against people like Sonia Kruger should be thoroughly ashamed that they put forward the idea that there is a moral equivalence between Islam and its moral compass and that of Australians. Jews, Christians even secular Australians should be totally outraged that Islam is on our shores. Islam offers the exact opposite to much of what is held dear by these groups.

Australia is about a fair go, not submission to some backward religious philosophy that is easily offended and calls for the killing of all who don’t submit to it.

  5. michael Burd says:

You AUJS guys/Gals are unbelievable you cant even do a half decent job advocating for Israel on Campus. You cant get the largest Jewish study department in Australia at Monash to assist you or become your partners in attempting to challenge anti -Israel activism on Campus. Jewish students are intimidated by Palestinian, Arab ,Muslim students/ activists and their Socialist allies on Campus.
Yet you have the time and energy to fight for Muslim rights and act as their protectors they must be very happy that you got to bat for their rights and without Jews have any expectation for reciprocation from Muslims . When was the last time the Muslim community went to bat for Jews. How pious you all are . Perhaps we can pull down all the bomb proof walls and sack all the armed guards at our Jewish institutions .
The term Dhimmi and Stockholm syndrome comes to mind thats for sure.

I strongly suggest you read this latest article in Sydney’s DailyTelegraph the journalist must have read this article above when writing her piece.

  6. Geoff Pahoff says:

The suggestion this is about “White Australia ” is absurd and offensive.

If AUJS wants a straw man fight then they should hold it out the back of their place where they keep the boxing kangaroos.

This horrible thing is far too serious to waste time dealing with veiled allegations of racism.

    Grow up children.

  7. Gillian Miller says:

The young people in our society see things in black and white. This is not just about being an inclusive society, it is about protecting that society and preventing racism.

I would ask these Jewish students to think how Israelis feel as they suffer terrorist attacks on a daily basis from Muslims. Israel is an inclusive society and it was a Muslim who murdered a 13 year old girl in her sleep and a rabbi in front of his family. I would then ask them how they feel about the Muslim controlled countries threw their Jews out and why they do not allow them back in. Why Muslims are committing genocide in the Middle East.

Whilst not all Muslims are terrorists, most terrorists are Muslim, the FBI have found that 60% of all terrorist attacks were made by Sunni Muslims leaving 40% to be made up of other kinds of Muslims and non-Muslims. Perhaps we should consider checking the background of Muslims more carefully before allowing them in. I don’t see Jews blowing themselves up because of a picture of God with a big nose, Sikhs driving a truck into a parade because someone insulted his Sri – Gur Granth Sahib, a Protestant beheading people nor a Taoist taking over a musical event and eviscerating and murdering people because he can. But we do regularly hear that Muslims do this in the West. So, it is important to be sure that people that enter our countries do so to be part of the community and not part of the problem. If that means suspending immigration whilst further inquiries are made then that is what must happen.

  8. Eleonora Mostert says:

Sorry can’t agree with you. Why is it that only the Muslim community doesn’t integrate with the rest of the world. Why are Muslims the only ones who are not tolerant of anyone other then themselves. Jews as a nation that was integrated with many others countries…how many times did the Jewish nation highjack planes, mass murder people of different religions. These people are EVIL and are a cancer on this earth. There is no such thing as a peace loving Muslim. They all follow the Koran, they all follow Islam and they are all out to turn the world into an Islamic world even if it is to murder those who refuse to convert. They blow up their own children for crying out loud, They have no respect for life not even their own kind. Stop trying to cover their evil and let the world deal with them instead of blamin g everyone else for what the Muslims arre doing.

  9. Henry Herzog says:

Good for you AUJS. Racism and incitement to hate, let alone the divisiveness of Hanson and Kruger fracture our society. Now you also need to take a stance against those members of our community who are a part of this fearful racist campaign.

    • Hilary Rubinstein says:

Including the Islamic hate preachers who inveigh against Jews and Israel (and sometimes against women), as I’m sure you’ll agree, Henry.

      • Henry Herzog says:

I most definitely agree Hilary. But we have no influence on the Islamic hate preachers, other than, not to give them fuel to preach hatred to their congregants. This fear and hatred only creates more fear and hatred. So how does this help? It only makes matters worst. It would be foolish to think that it’s OK to demonise minority groups as long as they’re not Jewish.

        • Hilary Rubinstein says:

Thanks, Henry. I agree that minority groups should not be demonised, but when that precept serves to blinker us to legitimate concerns and gag us from expressing legitimate fears, we are in trouble and danger. If only the Muslim community would express outrage over Islamic antisemitism and the Islamic supremacy of groups such as Hizb ut Tahrir.

  10. Michael Burd says:

I heard the Islamic council of Victoria and the Imams council have just issued a press release condemning
Muslim clerics inciting hatred towards Jews and condemning with out reservation all forms of anti semetitism and anti Jewish Israelism
The press release went on to advise Palestinian Arab and. Muslim students and their organizations and socialist partners to stop intimidating Jewish students .

    Then I woke Up

    • Erica Edelman says:

Michael! I was so excited reading your comment !
      Until I woke up!
If only Sonia Kruger had started all that …

    • Henry Herzog says:

See what I mean: So Muslims not condemning anti-Semitic stuff at university campuses is reason enough to keep silent, or even contribute to demonising Muslims. When ordinary people keep silent, when there is racial hatred peddled, the tyrants triumph. Obviously, Mr Burd has learnt nothing from history. HATE IS THE ANSWER, AND HATE IS THE ONLY ENGINE OF SURVIAL; according to Mr Burd, that is.

  11. Erica Edelman says:

Exactly. The question is wrong .
Kruger’s speech and sentiment was clumsy and ill-thought through.

What she should have said was – ” Our immigration processes and intelligence gathering need tightening up, and although we have
A legitimate fear of terrorism, we embrace the essence of immigration PROVIDING any immigrant landing on our shores DOES NOT bring with them ANY notion of disrupting our peaceful existence. A string of strategic and sound intelligence practices MUST be able to track and eradicate extremists – ones living here already as well as imports – who are a threat”

Kruger’s ” all or nothing” statements ” are unhelpful and do nothing to engender peace and harmony.
