Now in its 5th year, and organised by Reuben Zelwer and Joey Eckstein, the event raised over $6000 which will be donated evenly to Jewish Care Victoria and Melbourne Jewish Charity Fund (MJCF).

The teams consisted of an eager bunch of over 30’s who battled it out representing Jewish Care and MJCF. A spirited crowd of family and friends came down to Caulfield East Reserve to support the players and enjoy a sausage sizzle at half time.

“It’s a fantastic event to be involved in. The boys really get into the spirit of it and the support from the sidelines is very encouraging,” said Zelwer. “More importantly, the money raised for Jewish Care and MJCF goes towards very worthy causes.”

Bill Appleby, Jewish Care CEO and team coach, praised all the players for their efforts on the field and for caring for their community. “The significance of today’s game does not just lie in the amount fundraised, but in your actions to care enough to do something to help those in need.”

Jewish Care’s mascot, Tzeddy, made an appearance pleasing the kids by handing out AFL footy cards, key-rings, yo-yo’s and activity books. For the record, a massive nine goal last quarter by MJCF and inaccurate kicking by Jewish Care saw MJCF claim the perpetual game trophy with a 76 point victory. Final scores:  MJCF – 19.12.126 d Jewish Care 6.14.50.
