Antisemitic stickers have been plastered on signposts and poles in three Sydney suburbs this week.

The stickers equating Zionism with a swastika appeared in areas of Marrickville, Botany and Canterbury.

Two other stickers stated “Free Palestine” and “Stop Genocide in Iraq”.
The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies contacted Canterbury and Botany councils to request that the stickers be removed, and both councils responded immediately and positively. The majority of stickers in Marrickville were removed by a private citizen.

Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff commended the councils for their swift action. “A swastika is not harmless graffiti; it is the ultimate symbol of racial hatred,” he said. “These slogans have no place in our society and the Board of Deputies will continue to monitor the situation and to respond accordingly.”

    Dear Sir/ Madam,
I thought you might be pleased to know that Marrickville Council has also been removing the swastika posters and stickers following our becoming aware of them last week. It is also good to see our citizens removing them too.
