Israel’s Suha Arraf is one of four filmmakers who received a $25,000 grant for a new project at the recent Asia Pacific Screen Awards held at the Gold Coast.

Arraf’s project in work is called “The Poster”

She sent J-Wire a synopsis of the work…

At the microphone is President and Managing Director Asia Pacific, Motion Picture Association, Mike Ellis
and next to him is Ronin Films Managing Director and former APSA International Jury member Andrew Pike who headed the distinguished industry panel who assessed the submissions.

A poster mysteriously appears overnight, plastered all over an Arab village in Israel.

The poster violates the peace of the village by denouncing five women, both Muslim and Christian Arabs, who all suffer from social and political oppression.

Through the stories of the women we become aware of the delicate fabric of Arab villages in Israel and the relationship between Arabs and Jews who live side by side in Israel.

Chair of the Panel who determined the successful submissions, Andrew Pike said “THE POSTER is a project by a highly skilled and inventive writer, in this case examining life in a small village as a microcosm of relationships between men and women, and religious and political forces in Israel today.  It promises to be a film of cutting wisdom and wit, that should find a large audience within its own country and internationally.”
Screenwriter Suha Arraf graduated from the Tel Aviv Screenwriting Academy and has worked as a journalist and directed a number of documentaries. She was born in 1969 in Mi’ilya, co-wrote THE SYRIAN BRIDE with Eran Riklis and plans to make her directorial debut in the near future.
