QJBD president, Jason Steinberg, said the milestone was so significant for the small community that there had to be some important events.

“Although our community is small compared to Sydney, Melbourne and even Perth, we are vibrant and effective enough to have promoted Jewish life since 1865,” he said.

“We know there are many members of our community who now live in larger cities and still have a strong connection to Queensland.

“We invite any ex-Queenslanders to come home and participate in our celebrations or to send us an email with their best wishes.”

On Sunday November 15th, there will be a Gala Dinner with an address from special guest speaker Jillian Segal.

On November 1 there will be JFEST QLD – a cultural event for the public featuring Jewish music, food, dance and kids’ craft activities.

To celebrate 150 years of Jewish life in Queensland, a book is also being prepared to cover the early pioneers to the latest events and initiatives, looking at all the communities, groups and significant locations around the state. This will be completed and launched in 2016.”
